Disclaimer and terms

The tool edits metadata on files you process locally. It does not grant a right to publish, and it does not remove marks that live in the pixels.

Files you are allowed to change

Use the remover and the checker on images you own or are allowed to modify. Do not use them to strip attribution from someone else’s work, to falsify the origin of a news photo, or to defeat a technical measure you are not allowed to remove. You are responsible for the copy you download and for what you do with it afterwards.

What the tool does not do

It removes file metadata: C2PA, XMP, EXIF, GPS, IPTC, PNG text, and comments. On JPG, PNG, and WebP it does not recompress the picture. It does not remove SynthID or any other watermark embedded in pixel values. It does not detect whether an image is AI-generated. It does not change a post that already exists on Instagram, TikTok, or anywhere else. It does not guarantee that a platform will omit an AI label.

AVIF and HEIC are edited inside their container when the metadata items can be found safely. If that fails, the browser may offer a PNG redraw, which is no longer a byte-for-byte image and is labeled as such in the tool.

Platform rules and the EU AI Act

Instagram, TikTok, and other services set their own rules for synthetic media. Removing metadata can violate those rules if the service requires the credential to stay intact. Read the rules of the service you upload to.

Laws can require a disclosure even when a file has no metadata. The EU AI Act, where it applies, can impose transparency duties on certain AI-generated or AI-manipulated content. Those duties are about how you publish, not about whether an XMP packet is present. This site does not advise you on whether a duty applies. If you are unsure, ask a lawyer before you post.

The tool is provided as-is, without warranty of fitness for a particular upload, print job, or legal outcome. To the extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for labels that remain, for files that a platform rejects, or for decisions you make after downloading a cleaned copy.

Questions

Does a cleaned file mean I do not have to disclose AI?

No. Disclosure duties and platform labels can apply even when metadata is gone. Cleaning a file is not a compliance step and not a way to avoid one.

Can I use this on client work?

Only if your agreement allows you to alter metadata. Keep the master they delivered. Do not present a cleaned export as the untouched original.
