What “remove metadata” includes here
People search this phrase for privacy and for AI labels, and they are usually looking at the same bytes. A camera JPEG stores shutter, lens, software, and sometimes GPS in EXIF. An editor adds XMP. A newsroom or a stock tool adds IPTC captions. An AI tool adds a C2PA credential or a PNG text chunk with the prompt. All of those sit beside the pixels. All of them are removed together on this page.
There is no switch to keep the lens data and drop only GPS. If you need a master with the camera record, keep it somewhere private and publish the cleaned copy. The GPS page explains the location records in more detail. The AI metadata page explains the credential side. The mechanism is the same remover.
ICC color profiles are kept, so a print file does not silently change color. Multi-picture JPEG extras, such as some HDR gain maps stored in APP segments, can be dropped. The primary image is copied through. GIF and video are refused.

How to remove metadata from a photo
- 1
Use the full file
Download the original. A cloud preview is often a different, smaller file.
- 2
Optional: read it first
The metadata checker lists what is present without changing the file.
- 3
Drop it above
Up to 30 files, 15 MB each. Processing stays in the browser.
- 4
Download the cleaned copy
Single file or ZIP. Upload that copy, not the original.
Metadata is not the picture
A face, a document on a desk, and a pixel watermark are still in the image after a clean. Removing metadata is not anonymizing the photograph.
Questions
Is this free and does it upload the photo?
It is free. The file is read in your browser and is not uploaded. There is no account.
Will the photo look different?
JPG, PNG, and WebP image data is copied, not re-encoded. The file often gets slightly smaller because the metadata is gone.
Can I remove only the AI part?
Not in this version. EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, C2PA, and PNG text are removed together. See remove AI metadata for what the AI-specific records are.
Does this remove SynthID?
No. SynthID is in the pixels. A metadata tool cannot remove it.
