What Facebook is reading
A Facebook photo post, a story frame that started as a still, and a group photo all start as a file on your device. Meta can read C2PA content credentials and other metadata on that upload, and it can also run classifiers. The metadata half is the half this tool can change. The classifier half and any pixel watermark are not.
The label wording is the same family as Instagram’s AI Info. There is no reliable switch inside Facebook to clear it while the credential is still in the file you are about to send. There is also no switch on this website that edits a photo already on a timeline. Delete the post and upload a cleaned file if you are testing.
Photos copied from a camera roll still have GPS more often than AI credentials. This remover deletes that location data in the same pass. If you need the place and the time, keep a master. The GPS page explains that tradeoff.
Upload a cleaned file to Facebook
- 1
Export the full photo
Save the JPEG or PNG you intend to post. A tiny cloud placeholder is not the file Facebook will read if you later send the original.
- 2
Check, then strip
The checker lists C2PA, XMP, EXIF, and GPS. The tool on this page removes them. JPG and PNG pixels stay put.
- 3
Move the cleaned copy to your phone
AirDrop, a drive, or a cable. In the Facebook composer, pick that file, not the original in Recents.
- 4
Leave the old post alone or delete it
Cleaning a local file does not rewrite a photo that friends can already see.
Stories and Reels
A still Story is the same job as a post. A video Story or a Reel is not. This tool does not edit MP4 files. A cover you choose from the camera roll is an image and can be cleaned. A frame grabbed from the video is not a separate file you cleaned.
Questions
Will this remove AI Info from a Facebook post that is already up?
No. Delete the post and upload a cleaned file if you want a new public copy. This site never receives Facebook’s copy.
Is Facebook different from Instagram here?
The file-level trigger is the same Meta family: C2PA and related metadata, plus classifiers this tool cannot see. The Instagram guide goes deeper on Stories and Reels.
Does it also remove the location?
Yes. GPS is part of EXIF, and EXIF is removed. Keep a master if you need it.
What if the checker is clean and Facebook still labels the photo?
The remaining signal is not metadata. It may be a classifier or a pixel watermark. Stripping again will not change that.
