Remove AI metadata from an image before you Pin it

Pinterest can show a generative-AI label on a Pin when the image file still contains provenance metadata such as a C2PA credential, and a Pin saved from someone else can already be labeled at the source. Clean the image you upload. Saving this page cannot edit a Pin that is already on a board.

Clean on this device

JPG, PNG, and WebP are rewritten at the container level, so the pixels stay as they were. AVIF and HEIC are edited in place when the file structure allows it.

Up to 30 files · 15 MB each · JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC

The file you upload versus a Pin you saved

If you upload a JPEG from Firefly, ChatGPT, Photoshop, or Canva’s Magic Studio, the credential in that file is a concrete thing Pinterest can store with the Pin. Stripping it before upload removes that particular signal. Pinterest can still label or rank images with other systems. This page does not claim to know every classifier Pinterest runs, and it does not quote a button name that changes between layouts.

A Pin you saved from someone else’s board is their upload. Cleaning a screenshot of that Pin does not edit their Pin, and the screenshot may not even contain the original metadata. Download your own export and clean that.

Idea Pins and video Pins are partly video. This tool only helps the still image you attach. A design made in Canva should be cleaned after download, not by assuming the editor badge is the metadata.

Publish a cleaned image as a Pin

  1. 1

    Flatten to an image

Use the JPG, PNG, or WebP you will upload. A PDF or a video will not open here.

  2. 2

    See the provenance

The checker shows C2PA, XMP, and PNG text. Those are the records most relevant to an AI label. GPS is the privacy record in the same file.

  3. 3

    Strip and download

The tool on this page keeps JPG, PNG, and WebP pixels and drops the metadata.

  4. 4

Upload the new file in the Pin creator

Do not reselect the original from your recent downloads.

Labels and ads are not the same switch

A shopping ad or a regional disclosure rule can require you to say an image was generated even after the metadata is gone. The disclaimer is the boundary. Cleaning is not a substitute for that.

Questions

Does Pinterest read C2PA?

Pinterest has labeled generative AI content and can use metadata in the uploaded image, including content credentials when they are present. If your file has none, that particular signal is absent. Other signals can remain.

Can I unlabel a Pin that is already live?

No. Change the local file and upload a new Pin. This site does not connect to Pinterest.

Will the Pin look softer?

JPG, PNG, and WebP are not recompressed. The picture data is copied.

What about a camera photo I only color-corrected?

You may still want GPS gone before a public board. That is the GPS remover. It also removes the rest of EXIF.
